South Houston is an incorporated city in Harris County of roughly sixteen thousand people, bordered on every side by Houston and Pasadena. It began as a settlement called Dumont in 1907, took its present name at incorporation in 1913, and grew from a produce-shipping stop into a dense residential city as the Houston Ship Channel drew industry to this side of the county.
